Founded in 1976, the award winning Flourish newspaper is the official journal of the Archdiocese of Glasgow. It is distributed via every Catholic church within the Archdiocese, which is divided into nine deaneries covering 99 parishes in the West of Scotland. The City of Glasgow is the main population centre along with the ancient town of Dumbarton in the west and the New Town of Cumbernauld in the east. The Archdiocese extends to Bearsden and Milngavie in the north and all the way to Balloch and Garelochhead in the west.
The paper's title is derived from the motto of the city of Glasgow – Lord, Let Glasgow Flourish by the preaching of Thy Word and the praising of Thy Name – attributed to St Mungo, the patron of the Archdiocese of Glasgow.
Flourish is published 11 times a year - appearing on the first Sunday of the month, except January. Each edition is circulated to all 99 parishes in the Archdiocese of Glasgow and a number of parishes in the dioceses of Motherwell and Paisley. The paper has a readership across Scotland and subscribers in Europe, Africa, the Americas and Asia. The total circulation is over 10,000 with a readership of 50,000.
Flourish provides entertaining, vibrant and thought provoking coverage of current national and international events, as well as local news and regular features on weddings, schools, home services, holidays and travel, solicitors, the arts, vocations and funeral services.
